Tesco.com - Eliminates the stress of your weekly shop PDF Print E-mail

It’s a pain having to drive over to your local supermarket and spending an hour queuing up isn’t it? Shopping is a very stressful job especially if you have to take the kids with you so why not try doing your weekly shopping online at Tesco.com! You can easily find everything you need on the website without having to run around every single aisle looking for things and trying to get your children to behave. If you’re a full time worker do you really want to have to go out shopping after you come home from work or spend your weekend at a supermarket?

The Basics

For a £4-£6 delivery charge you can have a tesco worker (got to keep those people busy ;) ) running around the shop picking up everything you need whilst checking the quality and then getting someone else to drop it off at your home in a 2 hour slot that you yourself can choose. The delivery man will bring everything to your doorstep and give you your shopping receipt with any unavailable items listed for you and any substitutions made highlighted (send them back with the driver if you don’t want them for a refund). How easy is that?! Think about this the next time someone pushes you out the way or jumps in front of you in the queue.

The website itself covers every single item you will find in your large Tesco store including electrical goods and entertainment items as well as finance, insurance and telecoms.

They are the basics so now to move on to the actual site…..

Registration
Before you can add anything to your shopping basket you must first register. This is a quick and painless process where you will be asked for your name, address, e-mail address, password and also your clubcard number (for those extra savings). Once you’ve filled everything in, you’re ready to enter the site.

The next time you come back to the site you will just need to enter your username (which is your e-mail address) and password and you will be logged straight back in.

The Main Site

The website is split up into different sections: Extra, Groceries, Finance & Insurance, Telecoms, and More. The department you would like can be easily selected using the navigation bar at the top of the page.

The main reason why you’re here is to do your grocery shopping so click straight onto the ‘Groceries’ tab. From here you’ll be able to see the mini departments inside the Grocery department which includes Food & Drink, Toiletry, and House & Pet. Clicking on one of these departments will display the special offers available in the main window and then give a separate navigation menu on the left side.

To choose an item simply navigate to the category you are after and you will be shown a list of items. If you would like to see a small thumbnail picture of the item just click the “Show product pictures” box. The product will display the price of the item and also show if there are any special offers associated with it. If the item has an “I” next to it, you can click this to view more information on the item.

If you would like to add an item to your virtual shopping basket (and get that Tesco worker running around the store getting the item for you…. think of all the POWER you have!!!), just select the quantity you would like and then click the “ADD” button. This will show up in your basket on the right side frame of the page.

At the bottom of each item there is a link which says “Write note”. This feature allows you to write a small message for the picker telling them how you would like the item and stating any substitute you would like if that particular item is not available. The notes are permanently stored so you will only have to type it in once as the system will remember your preference the next time you choose that particular item.

Checking Out

Once you’ve selected everything you need, click on the “checkout” button on your shopping basket. You will then be shown a delivery slot booking sheet. Just click on the slot you would like your shopping to be delivered in and you will then be taken to a secure checkout page. Fill in your card details and make any amendments you would like before clicking “confirm my order”. Once you have completed this you will receive an e-mail listing all the items you have ordered and confirming the delivery slot you have chosen.

Express Shopper

This excellent little system searches out all the items for you. Click the “Express Shopper” button at the top of the page and you will be shown simple instructions how to use it. All you need to do is simply type a list of items on the notepad of everything you would like and hit the “find now” button. The Express Shopping system will then bring up all the items that match your keyword and you can add the item of your choice to your shopping basket.

Favourites

This is a list of everything you have ordered from the site previously. This can help cut your shopping time down by half as all you have to do is go to your favourites and click on the items you shop for regularly. If there is an item in your favourites that you didn’t like, you can just delete it and it will never show up on there again.

Conclusion

The website is very user friendly with a nice simple layout. The colours are very pleasing to the eye and nothing stuck out as being something I didn’t like.

You can save a lot of type shopping this way and it also takes the stress away from your grocery shopping. Delivery slots are very accomodating so you can even get a very late delivery if you prefer. This type of shopping does however have it’s drawbacks.

The main problem is the picking of fresh produce. This is normally a very individual taste but Tesco do do a decent job in trying to get things right. The other main problem is that substitutions are not always to your liking. This does depend on how good the instructions you give are and if you don’t like a particular item, you can just send it back with the driver for a full refund.

My opinion? The service is very impressive and I would recommend it to anyone. It really does save a lot of time and is invaluable if you know you have a busy week ahead. It will probably take you a couple of goes before you get the hang of it but once you do, you’ll be able to do all your shopping in 10-15 minutes.

Go on….. give it a go!!
